The 10th annual Sisters Festival, Bhenna Da Mela, featured ...
It was a fun-filled day of singing, dancing, eating and celebrating Punjabi culture. The hall was filled with women and children dancing to the music played live by a fantastic orchestra and several well-known Punjabi singers from as far as Vancouver and India.
This marks the 10th year a group of women from the Punjabi community of Hamilton and Stoney Creek have organized this event. Jasbir Dosanjh was the master of ceremonies, Mohini Phull directed and danced with the women of all ages doing the traditional gidda dance. Baljinder Dhoophur and Pinder Madhar made sure the event ran smoothly.
There was a fashion show by the senior women and local businesses were selling traditional saris, other beautiful outfits and costume jewelry. There were lineups to get samosas and a variety of Indian food from a local restaurant.
It was a great day of women bonding, supporting and encouraging each other.
Congratulations to the organizers for another successful event.
