“I like the other members and also the fact that we’re putting on a show for people and they seem to enjoy it,” said the 84-year-old, 10-year member.
The Geritol Follies entertain audiences of all ages, by showcasing the talent of an ageless cast, 60-plus years young, in a variety show style, with music, dance and comedy.
“It’s such a great organization,” said Wright, who’s a member of the Gentlemen’s Choir and Follies Fun Gang. “The people in it are wonderful, they really are, so very friendly. It’s a lot of fun.”
Christine Hamilton founded the Geritol Follies with only a handful of chorus singers in 1972 at a local recreation centre.
Her venture was based on the premise that age presents no barrier. Hamilton produced and directed the show, which grew into a cast of more than 90 energetic senior citizens, before her death in 2002.
A charitable organization, the Geritol Follies continues today, performing each June and December at Hamilton Place Theatre. A testimony to the success of the Geritol Follies is their 30-plus years of sold-out performances at Hamilton Place Theatre and at other venues in Canada and the US.
The Geritol Follies are celebrating 35 years in the entertainment industry this year and will hold their Christmas Variety Show on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 2 p. m. and Friday, Dec. 4 at 2 p. m. and 7 p. m. at Hamilton place Theatre.
“It’s going to be a great show,” said Wright. “It’s got a little bit of everything to get you into the holiday spirit.”
The Geritol Follies Christmas Variety Show will take place Thursday, Dec. 3 at 2 p. m. and Friday, Dec. 4 at 2 p. m. and 7 p. m. at Hamilton Place Theatre.
