There is so much childhood obesity today that such steps needed to be taken. Kudos to all those health-conscious parents for giving their two cents. The policy mandates healthier options for students and staff. They would like to see no more chocolate bar fundraisers, healthier pizza days, no more pop or hotdog days and no more sugary rewards in the classroom.
The boards goal is to finalize the policy by the end of the school year. It is then expected to take three years to implement. If you are a concerned parent like myself, you can comment through a survey at hwdsb.on.ca/feedback .
People have until Dec. 9 to do so. I, for one, thank the board for developing a long-awaited policy. After all...our children are the future.
