Nov 20, 2009
With the demolition of the former residence and business at 95King St.,whichbegan Monday, Nov. 16, the City of Hamilton has initiated the next phase of the redevelopment of Battlefield House Museum and Park.

This new open space provides essential room for demonstrations and exhibitions during the rapidly growing Re-Enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek event held each June. In the shorter term, the removal of the building provides drivers and pedestrians on King Street an unobstructed view of the park.

The re-development of the park is part of the preparations for the bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812.

Battlefield Park will be a focus of activities during the three-year commemoration.

Other phases of the redevelopment will include: a greatly expanded Re-Enactment; the removal of the buildingat 99King St.;arestored Battlefield Monument; the re-creation of the 1920s Dunington Grubb landscape; a public art installation; a re-restored Battlefield House; and enhanced exhibits and public programs. Other changes will include a new parking lot, new sidewalks and paths, as well as a work yard.
