Driver's vengeance misses mark
News
May 16, 2008

On May 12, at 12:40 a.m., a 23-year-old male was walking to the Tim Hortons at Barton Street and Gray Road to get a coffee, when two males he didn't know approached him.

A confrontation occurred and one of the suspects put the victim in a bear hug, while the other struck him in the face with an unknown object.

During the struggle, the victim head-butted the second suspect, causing him to bleed over the victim's clothing. The victim was knocked to the ground, where the suspects kicked him several times and rummaged through his pockets, taking cash and a cell phone.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction on foot. The victim went to Tim Hortons, where police were called.

The first suspect is described as a 20 to 24-year-old, 6' black male, with a medium build and round face, wearing blue hip hop clothing and a blue baseball cap.

The second suspect is described as a 5'9" white male, with a thin build and pointy chin, wearing a brown jacket and shirt, dark blue jeans and a brown baseball cap. He may also have damaged or missing front teeth. Police are investigating.

Tim Hortons disturbance

On May 10, at about 11 p.m., police went to the Tim Hortons at Barton Street and Lake Avenue, in response to a male causing a disturbance and banging his head against the window of the store.

Police interviewed the male, who provided a false name and date of birth. Further investigation revealed the male's identity and it was later determined he was wanted for breach of probation.

Arrested was Donovan Wilkinson, 49, of Hamilton.

Misplaced vengeance

On May 10, at 12:45 a.m., two males were walking in the parking lot of Fiesta Mall, when they exchanged words with a group of four or five males they didn't know. The bickering developed into a fight and both sides fled the area.

The two males split up while running; one of them returned home, got into an unplated vehicle and returned to the plaza attempting to locate his friend or anyone from the other group. He saw a van parked in front of Gino's Pizza on the lot and thought the people involved were in the store. He deliberately rammed the vehicle from behind, pushing it over a concrete curb toward the building. He reversed and once again hit the van, before starting to drive away.

Police were notified and responded. He was apprehended about 150 yards from the scene.

Arrested and charged with dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene is Cameron Michael Owsienko, 26, of Hamilton.

"It was a case of mistaken identity," said Sergeant Terri Collings said. "The two guys in the van were not part of the assault."
