On May 14, 18 Stoney Creek Furniture employees and friends will strut their stuff in the fourth annual Fashion Show for the Cure, benefiting The Cure Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
The Springtime in Paris themed event will feature fashions by Burlington's Frackleton's For Men, Jeff's Guy Shop, Joelle's, Mirella's Ladies Boutique and Presage; Grimsby's Donna's Fashions; St. Catharines' Charlotte's Boutique and Lingerie and Kloz etc.; and Westdale's The Villager Gentlemen's Clothier.
"There will be a nice variety, a little something for everyone," said event coordinator Jacqueline Lorimer.
The event will also include a guest speaker, an opening dance number and an intermission, with a Kittling Ridge Estate Wines and Spirits wine tasting bar.
In addition, attendees have an opportunity to win a donated Harmony House Jewellers Ltd. diamond ring worth $1,000 with the purchase of a ticket, along with many other prizes.
"There's a lot of great stuff to be won," said Ms. Lorimer, who started the event in honour of her sister, Vicki Martin, who died of breast cancer in 2004.
"Years ago, Stoney Creek Furniture did have bridal fashion shows and then they just kind of got away from it. So when that happened, we thought, 'How can we raise money for the cure?' So we started with National Denim Day and National Denim Day is the Tuesday after Mother's Day, so we started having a few small events in the store and then it progressed into the fashion show," she said. "But the inspiration behind it is really my sister, who was 54 when she passed away."
A family affair, Ms. Lorimer's nieces and mom come to the show every year.
"It's for anyone who's ever been touched in any way by breast cancer," she said.
To date, the event has raised $33,040.24 for The Cure Foundation for Breast Cancer Research - a feat Ms. Lorimer says would make her sister very happy.
"I think she'd be thrilled because she would do exactly the same thing, she was kind of a take charge person," she said. "We're always doing as much as we possibly can... she watches the show, I'm sure. And if she were here, she'd be a model in it."
The fourth annual Fashion Show for the Cure, benefiting The Cure Foundation for Breast Cancer Research will take place May 14 at 7 p.m. at Stoney Creek Furniture, 395 Lewis Rd. Tickets are $25, if purchased at any of the participating fashion stores or Stoney Creek Furniture; $30, if purchased at the door. For more information, call (905) 643-8959 ext. 317.
