
Award-winning funk r'n'b band Groove Corporation will appear in Stoney Creek for the first time, Saturday, May 3.
The eight-piece core band consists of members from St. Mary's and London to Waterdown, Burlington, Dundas, Hamilton and Stoney Creek.
A popular fixture on the summer festival circuit, Groove Corporation has a fan base of all ages. With instruments including a horn section, along with lead singer Kim Campagnaro who plays congas, the band moves through material ranging from Tower of Power and Average White Band to Stevie Wonder and James Brown.
Groove Corporation is on the brink of releasing its first CD, which was recorded live and is a mix of covers plus a few originals and will release a second CD next year of original material. Members include Kim Campagnaro (lead vocals, congas), Stoney Creek's Frank Vignanello (drums), Steve Hilbert (bass), Lily Sazz (keyboards, vocals), Alex MacDougall (guitar, vocals), Peter McFarland (sax), Cole G. Benjamin (sax, vocals) and Rich Sumstead (trumpet).
The band won a London Music Award for best blues/r'n'b band in 2007 and is nominated again this year.
Groove Corporation will appear at The Old Powerhouse, 21 Jones St., on May 3 at 9 p.m.
