The Royal Botanical Gardens officially opened a new Earth Art exhibit last week, featuring creations by artists from all over the world. Each artist used materials like rocks, reeds, saplings, wood chips, and tree trunks to make a work of art that looks at home in the preserved acres of nature on the RBG property. The pictured exhibit is by Neville Gabie entitled V=B0 B1 *D^ B2 *D^ B4 *H^ B5, which is the mathematical equation used by foresters to calculate the total cubic volume of wood in a tree. This tree was a red oak destroyed by Gypsy moths. Mr. Gabie cut the tree into cubes using a chainsaw and made a block with the same volume that the tree had when it stood in the forest. The exhibit runs until October 13.
