Play Airlines is giving soccer fans a chance to see live UEFA Nations League matches in Cardiff, Wales and Reykjavík, Iceland this fall, with time to explore some of the top attractions in each country.
In an April 19 news release, the Icelandic airline said soccer fans flying out of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport can take advantage of a program that allows passengers travelling to and from Cardiff, Wales via Iceland, to prolong their layover in Iceland for up to 10 days, at no additional cost.
“This unique offering allows Canadians to explore the wonders of Iceland while en route to Cardiff or during their return journey,” the airline noted in the release.

The extended layover offer is available for UEFA Nations League matches between Iceland and Wales on Oct. 11 at Cardiff City Stadium and Nov. 19 at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Play noted in the release the inaugural flight from Hamilton to Wales, via Iceland, is scheduled for Oct. 10. The final flight departs Nov. 20.
“We’re thrilled to offer Canadian travellers the chance to experience the thrill of international soccer matches while exploring the picturesque landscapes of Wales and Iceland,” said Play Airlines CEO Einar Örn Ólafsson in the release.

Play offers a no-frills, pay-for-what-you-need model that allows passengers to choose their upgrades, such as an in-flight meal, checked bag service or seats with extra leg room.
